He passed the repeat hearing test, and I still clap behind his head every evening

Our son's newborn hearing screen came back 'refer' for one ear. The repeat at six weeks was a clear pass. I know, professionally, that a refer result is common and usually means nothing. Personally, I have spent five months dropping spoons behind him to see if he turns. He turns. Every time. My partner has started doing it too. How do you stop checking once you've been given the all-clear?

We had a different scare, a heart murmur that turned out to be nothing. I still rest my hand on his chest when he sleeps. I don't think the checking ever fully stops, it just gets less frequent.

Is the checking stopping you from doing anything, or is it a few seconds of your evening? If it's the second, I wouldn't worry much. If it's every hour and it leaves you anxious, that's worth talking over with someone.

This. I checked our son's breathing for months. I only stopped when I caught myself doing it while he was awake and yelling.

My son is 10 and I still check whether he's heard me when I call him for dinner. Usually he hasn't. Different problem.
