Grandson wants to learn cursive from me this summer. Do schools still teach it?

He's with us most afternoons this month and has been watching me write. He says nobody in his class writes 'joined-up' and wants to learn it before his friends do. I'm happy to teach him, but I don't want to undo whatever his school will teach in class 2 or 3. Do schools here still teach cursive, and from which class?
