Football coach shouts at the 8 year olds the whole session. They love him. Do I worry?

Son started football coaching in June. The coach is loud. Every single instruction is shouted, and he calls kids out by name when they slack. I'd never speak to my own class like that. But my son comes home happy, has started running in the evenings on his own, and copies the coach's 'hands on knees, breathe' routine at home. None of the kids look scared of him. Is this just how sports coaching is, or should I be paying more attention?

I'd look less at the volume and more at what he shouts. Instructions and names on a noisy ground are one thing. Comments about a child's weight, or mocking the slow ones, are another. Stay for one full session and listen from the side. Your son coming home happy and running on his own is a good sign.

our son's cricket coach was the same. the shouting was never the problem. what bothered me later was the same five boys getting picked for every match. watch who gets the game time

Stayed and watched yesterday's session. Mostly 'move', 'look up', 'pass early'. One boy got a sharp word for pushing, which seemed fair. Will keep an eye on the match selection too.
