Everyone in the family assumes I know the pregnancy side because I'm a doctor
I'm a dermatologist. I see skin, hair and nails, and the last time I thought seriously about obstetrics was as a student. Since we told the family, my phone hasn't stopped. Can she eat papaya, should she sleep on the left, is this tiredness normal, why didn't the scan show the gender. My mother forwards every question to me first and then to my partner's mother as a second opinion. My partner has a perfectly good obstetrician, and half the time she hears about a new rule from my aunts before she hears it from the doctor. My worry is that if I keep answering, even with 'ask her doctor', they'll keep coming to me and I end up as the go-between for every small thing. If I stop answering, my mother takes it personally. How did you get relatives to take their questions to the actual doctor, or at least to stop routing them through one of you? ❤️
