Every girl in her class can ride a cycle except mine. Where around Banjara Hills do people practise?

She's seven and has had a cycle with training wheels for two years. It mostly stood in the parking. Last week at a friend's birthday every other girl rode off without stabilisers and she stood there holding hers. She came home and asked me to take the wheels off immediately. Problem is where. Our lane slopes, the roads around us are busy at every hour, and our building has no flat open space. I don't know where people around Banjara Hills take kids to learn 🙂

We taught ours in an empty school ground on Sundays, the watchman let us in once we asked. Took about four Sundays. Lowering the seat so her feet touch flat helped more than anything else.

Big empty parking lots early on Sunday mornings. Pedals off for the first few tries, and let her scoot it like a balance bike. Balance first, pedalling after.

Mine learnt at 9 because we kept putting it off, and by then she was embarrassed to be wobbling in front of the little ones. Seven is a fine age, she'll be off in a few weeks 🙂 Go early in the morning, it's too hot later anyway.

Ours learnt in the colony road behind our building on weekend mornings before the cars came out. A friend who taught her daughter around your side said she used the area around a park when it was quiet, but I don't know which one, sorry. Holding the back of the seat and not the handlebar was my big lesson.

Pedals off and holding the seat, noted. We've been going to an empty lot near a closed showroom at seven the last two mornings, pedals off as suggested above. She glides now and is already annoyed that I keep holding on 🙂
