Does anyone know Sree Balaji High School in Padmarao Nagar? Making a long list for our son's class 4

jade_quilt_7352

Our son starts class 3 in June, and we've more or less decided it will be his last year at his current school. Nothing dramatic. He has just been quiet and not very happy there for a while, and we'd like a smaller, calmer place for him. One of the parents from his Sunday football mentioned Sree Balaji High School in Padmarao Nagar. I know it's a long way from Jubilee Hills, and it's State Board, which we've never done. Right now we're making a long list before we cut it down. If your child goes there, or you know families who do, what is the day like in the primary classes? And how do children coming from CBSE manage, especially with Telugu? He has done Hindi as second language so far.

Ask about Telugu before anything else. My son is in a CBSE school and Telugu is the one subject he struggles with. Nobody at home can read the script, so we can't even check his homework. In a State Board school I'd expect more Telugu, not less. Find out from which class it is compulsory and what they do for children who join late. Don't assume Hindi as second language will be there.

Before you go across town, can you pin down what 'not very happy' is about? Class size, a teacher, friends, the work? I've watched two friends move a child for something vague and find the same problem in a different uniform. Not saying don't move. The list just gets much shorter once you know what you're fixing.

we're in himayatnagar and i drive past that side sometimes. the roads around padmarao nagar get slow in the mornings. no idea about the school itself, sorry. if it were me i'd try the trip from jubilee hills on a school morning, just once, before getting attached to any name

Reading this during the baby's 4 am feed. He's years away from school, so nothing on Sree Balaji from me. It was the distance that caught my eye. Each time I've had to reach the Secunderabad side from Kondapur on a weekday morning it has been well over an hour. That's a big piece of an 8 year old's day in the back seat, both ways.

It's a lot, but it depends on the child. My son travelled close to an hour each way for his two years of inter. He slept on the bus and managed fine. But he was 15 when he started, not 8, and he could sort out his own seat and his own headphones. For a younger child I'd look hard at the closer options first.
