Do most families at Nightingale High School live around Somajiguda? Thinking about where her friends would be

sunny_quilt_2530

Our daughter is just one, so this is early. We pass Nightingale High School on the daycare run every morning and it's on our short list for nursery, partly because it's close. One thing I hadn't considered until a colleague brought it up: where the other children live. His son's school friends are spread across the city, so every birthday and playdate is a forty-minute drive. I grew up in a lane where my school friends lived next door, and I'd like some version of that for her. If you know the school, is it mostly families from Somajiguda, Raj Bhavan Road and Khairatabad, or do children come in from all over? And if you chose a school near home, did the friendships end up local?

This should have been higher on our list. Our daughter's school is close to us, but most of her friends live at the other end of Gachibowli, so I'm a part-time driver every weekend. A near school doesn't guarantee near friends if the school draws from a wide area.

elder one's school is 40 min away and her friends are scattered from tolichowki to kondapur. every birthday is a cross-city trip 🤷 for the younger one we'd pick a closer school just for this

For us it started to matter when my son got older. He is 11 and has one school friend who lives two lanes away in Begumpet. That friendship is a big part of why the afternoons after school work for him while I'm at the office. I would ask about it on a visit.

quick way to find out: ask the office where the school buses go. the routes tell you where the families live. if most kids walk or come on a parent's bike, it's a neighbourhood school
