Diary note says my class 3 son 'answers before the question is finished'

Second note this month. Teacher says he shouts out answers before she's done asking, and the other children don't get a chance. At home this is the same kid who barely talks at dinner. He says he knows the answer, so why wait. I don't have a good reply to that 🤷 How did you get a kid this age to hold back without making him feel that knowing things is the problem?

Had this exact note about our son in class 3. His teacher started giving him a job instead: write the answer on a slip, hand it to her, and she'd read out the best ones at the end. He felt trusted instead of shut down. Might be worth suggesting if the teacher hasn't tried something like it.

As someone who spends lectures begging students to say anything at all, I'd quietly take this problem. But yes, the waiting matters. What helped with my daughter was a rule at home: count to three in your head, then answer. She's 15 now and still does it before answering in viva practice.

teachers usually aren't annoyed by the knowing. it's that twenty others stop trying once one child always answers first. if you put it to him as 'give the others a turn to think' rather than 'stop', it lands better at that age

'Give them a turn to think' is something he'll understand. He likes things to be fair. Trying that tonight.

Two notes in a month is not much. Is the teacher asking you to do something specific, or just informing you? If it's the second, I wouldn't make it a big home project.
