Daycare's holiday list has 14 closure days. How do two working parents budget leave for that?

jade_quilt_1800

Our daughter started daycare this year and they've just sent the closures for the rest of it. Fourteen days, plus whatever days she's sent home unwell. My partner and I each have limited leave, and we'd hoped to keep a little for a real holiday. Do you split the closures down the middle, work from home with the baby around, lean on family? Our relatives can help sometimes but not on a schedule. I'd like to plan it now rather than argue about it in November.

That's what I'm afraid of. Did you keep any leave back just for sick days?

Spoke to my manager yesterday. Half days on closure days are possible for me, so we'll try mornings with me and afternoons with my partner and see how long that lasts.

Back in our son's daycare years we kept five days each untouched for illness and used comp-offs for the closures. The planned closures were never the hard part. The unplanned ones were.

grandparents were an hour away so we did a lot of one works from home with the baby. sounds fine on paper. nobody gets work done and the baby knows you're right there

Check how each employer counts half days. Mine counted a half day as a full day of leave, my partner's didn't, so the half days went to my partner. Small thing, saved us several days.
