Daycare says my daughter has started biting. Twice in a week

quiet_pool_9931

Got the second note at pickup this evening. She's not yet two, and apparently she bit a boy over a push toy last Thursday and someone else at snack time today. The teacher was polite about it but clearly wants us to do something. She doesn't bite at home at all. Not us, not the cousins. So I have no idea what I'm supposed to be correcting. Is this just a phase at this age, and what did your daycare expect from you?

My daughter is in high school now, so please weigh this accordingly. She went through a biting stretch at about the same age, and in hindsight it lined up with her wanting things faster than she could ask for them. Once she had a few more words it faded within a couple of months. That is one child's experience, not a rule.

Our son is at daycare too and he went through a short biting spell in the summer. What helped was asking the staff exactly when it happened. With him it was always near the end of the day, when he was tired and the room was crowded. They moved him to the quieter corner after four and it mostly stopped. Did they tell you what time of day these two were?

"Clearly wants us to do something" is vague. Ask them what they are doing in the room when it happens, and what specifically they want from you at home. If she doesn't bite at home, there isn't much for you to correct there.

my son was the biter at playschool. lasted maybe 6 weeks. the biting was the easy part honestly, it was the other parents at pickup giving me looks that i hated. nobody tells you that bit

we were the bitten side last year. my younger one got bitten at daycare and i never blamed the other mother for a second, two year olds do this. what annoyed me was the school telling me at pickup with zero detail and then refusing to say anything more

      Replying to @indigo_diary_3994

ours also won't say which child. is that normal policy everywhere?
