Daughter has asked me to stop sending her marks to the family group

indigo_trail_4041

Every time her test results come, I post them in our family WhatsApp group. Grandparents, aunts, the cousins in the US, everyone. Ammamma replies with ten blessings and the uncles send thumbs up. I thought she liked it. Yesterday she said, very calmly, that she'd prefer I stopped. Not angry, just 'they're my marks, Nanna'. She's 16. I'm not hurt. Okay, maybe a little. But the grandparents will ask why the updates stopped. What do I tell them? And do I share anything at all now, or only what she approves? 🙂

My parents did this with every rank I got, and I hated it by fifteen. Once the marks are on a group, nobody asks what's underneath them. My daughter is little and I've already stopped posting her reading level for that reason. Your daughter asking calmly is a good sign.

Fair. 'Nobody asks what's underneath them', that line landed. I'll tell Ammamma she can ask her directly. She'll like getting a call more than a message anyway.

      Replying to @indigo_trail_4041

We did exactly this a few months back. Ba now calls our daughter every Sunday to 'check on studies', and they mostly talk about recipes. Better deal for everyone 🙂

This is coming for us too, I can feel it. My son already winces when I forward his certificates. Maybe ask her what she's fine with you sharing. Some kids are okay with 'she did well' but not the numbers.

It's lovely that she told you calmly instead of quietly leaving the group ❤️ For the grandparents, something general like 'she's working hard and the exams went well' is honest and will keep them happy.
