Class teacher has recommended my 13 year old for the Saturday olympiad batch

The school runs an olympiad preparation batch for class 8, maths and science, every Saturday morning from October till February. My daughter's class teacher has recommended her, and the letter makes it sound like an honour, which my daughter has taken to heart. What I cannot tell from the letter is what the Saturdays look like. Is it teaching or mostly practice papers? How much homework comes with it? Saturdays are currently the only morning our younger one has both parents at home, so I would like to understand the routine before we agree to five months of it. If your child did a batch like this, did it stay manageable alongside the regular syllabus?

I can only speak to the primary level; my son's school runs a similar batch from class 3. In his case it was mostly practice papers with a teacher going through the answers, and very little homework. It may be different in class 8. One useful question for the school: how many children from last year's batch continued after the first term? That tells you more than the letter does.
