Class 9 son has started German on an app and now talks about studying in Germany

Three weeks of a language app, a streak he guards like his life depends on it, and now every dinner comes with a fact about German universities. Mostly that they're cheap and the engineering is good, and this from a boy who has talked about little except flying for a year. I love that he's curious. I also know nothing about how any of it works, and I don't want to either brush it off or start planning a move abroad for a 14 year old. Is it worth putting him in a proper German class now, or do we let the app phase run its course and see? ❤️

  • My elder one had a Japan phase last year, after a lot of anime. We didn't push a class, we just asked her to keep the streak going through the school term, which in our house is the real test 🙂 She dropped it by November. If your son is still at it by the half-yearlies, a proper class makes sense. Either way the language won't go to waste.

Through the half-yearlies is a good test. I'll hold off on signing him up for anything till then.
