Class 9 daughter wants to be a pilot. where do we even start looking

amber_spoon_4316

came out of nowhere at dinner. she's in class 9, icse, likes maths, okay at physics, has obviously never been near a cockpit. now she's asking if she should be doing something already i'm a doctor and know nothing about this world. is it physics and maths in 11th and 12th and then flying school? anything worth checking early, eyesight or medical stuff, before she gets too attached to the idea?

Son's friend went that way after 12th. Physics and maths in 11-12 were needed. Then long, expensive training. Find out about the medical before anything else.

My daughter's class had an aviation talk at a careers session last year, and the main thing she came back with was that the medical assessment comes first and can rule people out, eyesight and colour vision included. I would look into how that works before she spends time on the rest. Being a doctor, you may know someone who can explain the process properly.

Doing the medical question early is sensible. I'm not the right person to explain aviation rules, but in my experience families who check fitness requirements first spare themselves a lot of disappointment later. The aviation regulator publishes its requirements, so the information isn't only with coaching institutes.
