Class 2 booklist has a GK textbook, and apparently it's examined

Got the class 2 book list this week. Along with the usual books there's a General Knowledge one, and the note says it's part of the term exams. I flipped through it at the shop. Capitals of countries, national symbols, 'name the inventor', that sort of thing. He's interested in lots of things, but this looks like pure memorising for a 7 year old. Do your kids study GK for exams at this age, or does it get handled in class? Not planning to start anything in the holidays, just want to know what I'm in for 🙂

What does 'part of the term exams' mean in marks? If it's a 20-mark side paper, ignore it. If it goes into the main total, ask the class teacher in June how the questions are set. Don't guess from the book.

Agree on asking. Our school had GK in the primary years too. The questions came almost entirely from what was done in class, lots of one-word answers and picture questions. My daughter enjoyed the picture ones. It needed no study at home until about class 4 ❤

That's reassuring. Will ask at the first PTM. And he does like pictures, so it may end up being the one book he opens on his own.
