class 12 son's answer to 'what next' is still 'something with computers, but not coding'

relatives asked him this all summer. same answer every time. i work in security so i probably should know what to suggest, but when i try to explain what my team does, he loses interest by the second sentence. not sure if this is a real direction or just the answer that ends the conversation fastest

It is a real set of jobs, for what it's worth: networking, systems, IT support, product roles, data work that isn't heavy programming. Our daughter said 'design, but not drawing' at that age and it turned out to mean something quite specific once she found the words.

fair. maybe i should just take him to the office one saturday and let him sit with the team instead of explaining it

What does he actually do on a computer when nobody asks him to? That's your answer, not the label he gives relatives.

Mine said the same at 16. He's filling engineering counselling choices this week, mostly CSE, mostly because his friends are.

hope the counselling goes smoothly. did he get to visit any of the colleges before filling?
