Class 12 son wants evening group study at a friend's place before pre-boards

My son is 17, in Class 12, and pre-boards are in December. He and three friends want to start group study at one boy's house, two or three evenings a week, till about 10. The other parents are fine with it, and one of them will drop everyone home afterwards. So the logistics are sorted, he's thought it through. What I'm not sure about is the study part. When I was in school, 'combined study' meant a lot of snacks and very little chemistry. Does it work at this age, or do I let him try and watch the marks? :)

Teacher here. Depends entirely on whether they go in with a plan. Ask him what they're covering tonight. If he can name a chapter, it's study. If he says 'we'll see', it's a hangout with books nearby 🤷

Asked him. Answer was 'electrostatics, and his mom is making pav bhaji'. I'm counting that as half a plan :)

When my own children were preparing for their board exams, they studied with friends in the last few weeks, and it helped for revision: testing each other, going through old papers. It did not help with anything they had not already learnt on their own. If he uses those evenings for revision and keeps the new chapters for his own time, I think it can work. Has the school given them a revision plan yet?
