Class 1 school wants a TC from his preschool, and the preschool says they don't issue TCs

Son started class 1 at a new school this month. Admission done, fees paid, uniform bought, he's been going for a week. Now the office says his file is incomplete without a transfer certificate from his previous school. The previous school was a small preschool in a converted house. They say they've never issued a TC and don't have a format. The school office says 'any certificate is fine' on the phone and 'TC only' at the counter. Has anyone run into this? What did your preschool give you that the bigger school accepted?

We haven't been through this yet, our son is still in preschool, so treat this as a suggestion rather than experience. I'd ask the school to put in writing exactly which document will close the file, and then take that wording to the preschool. 'Any certificate' and 'TC only' can't both be true, and the person at the counter is the one who files it.

Getting it in writing is the right first step. When our son moved preschools last year, the new one wanted something similar. A letter on the old preschool's letterhead with his dates of attendance and a stamp was enough. Different city and a different kind of school, so it may not apply here.

ask for a 'study certificate' or 'bonafide'. small places do have those, they just don't call it a TC 😄

our preschool calls it a bonafide certificate, it's even in their fee booklet. didn't know a class 1 school would want one. adding it to my list for next year

      Replying to @sunny_chai_3687

Update: rang the preschool this morning and asked for a 'bonafide' instead of a TC. Same office, same lady, instant yes. Ready by Monday. Two weeks of back and forth over one word 😅 Fingers crossed the counter at the school is happy with it.
