Anywhere near Mehdipatnam that services old DSLRs? She wants it for photography

ivory_trail_3991

My old camera has come out of the cupboard because my daughter wants to learn photography over the next few months. The body seems fine, but the zoom lens is stiff and there are faint spots on some pictures, possibly fungus. The question is whether to get it serviced or put that money towards a basic second-hand camera that just works. I don't know what a service would cost or where to take it on this side of the city. Has anyone had an older camera cleaned or repaired near Mehdipatnam, Masab Tank or Lakdikapul?

We use a freelance photographer for our finished sites, and he's very particular about his gear. He gets his lenses cleaned somewhere around Basheerbagh, I think. I'll ask him for the name this week. He once told me that with fungus the fix can cost more than the lens is worth, so get an estimate before you agree to anything.

Good tip on the estimate. A friend once paid more for a lens clean than he'd paid for the lens.

my father had a camera with spots like that. the shop charged him just to open it, then said it wasn't worth fixing. ask about an inspection fee first

Had the same with a film camera we tried to revive. If she mainly wants to learn the basics, a phone with a manual mode teaches a lot of the same things. We let our 3 year old point an old phone at flowers, and she already has strong opinions about which pictures look nice.
