9 yr old wants tabla lessons. every teacher asks if we already have a tabla at home

she has been tapping rhythms on the dining table for months, so we said fine, let's find a class around kokapet. the three teachers i called all asked first whether she has her own pair to practise on. buying one before we know if she'll stick with it seems a lot. is there a way around that or is this just how it works

We rented a keyboard for 3 months before buying, for my daughter. Ask the teacher if they know someone selling a used pair, ours knew 2 students who'd quit 🤷

Was the rental arranged through the teacher or through a music shop? I'm asking ahead of time. My son is two and already drums on every steel vessel in the kitchen, so I suspect we'll be in this position eventually.
