3 year old rides his scooter all evening and fights the helmet every single time

Our son got a kick scooter in May and has barely got off it since. The helmet is the problem. Every evening it's ten minutes of screaming before it goes on, and he tries to pull it off the moment I look away. We ride in the apartment basement and on the internal road, so cars do come through. Is this a phase that passes, or did you find something that worked?

both of mine fought helmets till about 7. the only thing that changed it was letting them pick the helmet themselves in the shop, even the ugly one. the younger chose a neon green thing that he once wore to bed

    • We picked it together, a dinosaur one. He loved it in the shop. At home it's the enemy. Up late finishing work, so reading everything tonight.

    • One more question while I'm still awake. Did you ever let them ride without it in a safe spot, or was it strictly no helmet, no scooter?

      Replying to @pebble_marigold_8692

Strictly no helmet, no scooter for us. Two evenings of crying and then he gave up. Basements have cars reversing, I wouldn't make an exception there.
