17 yr old wants a weekend job at a café while doing IB

Son is in the first year of the IB Diploma. A friend's cousin runs a café near us in Magarpatta and has offered him Saturday and Sunday shifts. He wants the money and says it'll look good later. DP is already heavy. My partner isn't sure either. Did your teen work during school? Did marks suffer?

What would the job be, hour by hour? "Weekend shifts" can mean four hours on a Saturday morning or ten hours on both days. Those are very different decisions.

honestly i'd be thrilled if mine wanted to spend a weekend on anything that wasn't a screen. what's the real worry, the marks or the tiredness? those are not the same problem

Marks mostly, and the second-year deadlines. Spoke to him and the cousin. Agreed one shift, Saturday only, 4 hours. We'll look again after first term reports.

I can't speak as the parent of a teenager, mine isn't walking yet. But I worked weekends at a shop at 17 and it was the first time I understood what things cost. My marks were fine, though I wasn't doing anything as demanding as IB.
