17 year old wants to take the overnight train to Bengaluru with two friends

Daughter is 17, in her final IB year. She and two friends want to take the overnight train to Bengaluru during the break and stay three nights with another friend's family there. The friend's parents have called me, very sweet people, all fine on that end. It's the journey I'm stuck on. She's sensible. She's also never travelled anywhere without one of us. My mother-in-law thinks I've lost my mind even considering it. Arey, she'll be in college in a year and doing this on her own anyway. What would you need to feel okay with this? Or is the answer just no until 18 🙂

A few questions I would want answered first. Are they in the same coach and berths booked together? Who meets them at the station on arrival? Does she have money and a way to pay for a cab if the plan changes? If she can answer all of that herself without help, that tells you a lot about whether she's ready.

Ask her to plan the whole trip herself and present it to you, tickets, contacts, what happens if the train is late. If she does that work properly, I think that's your answer.

Live location for the full journey, check-in message when the train leaves and when it arrives. That'd be my deal. We've started her on short trips within the city on the same terms, and she's only 14 🙂

Did your daughter agree to live location without a fight? Mine is 13 and treats the suggestion as an insult.
