13 year old wants a second piercing in each ear, and my partner says it's my call

Daughter wants a second hole in each ear, higher up. Three girls in her class have them. My partner has handed the decision to me, which I think is a trap. I don't have a real objection. I just don't know what the objections are supposed to be. School rules? Infection? Age? Tell me what I'm missing.

In Rajasthan where I grew up girls had more holes than this by 13. My nani had seven in one ear 😊 For us it was never a big question. Only one thing, take her to a proper place where they use a new needle each time, and keep it clean every day for some weeks.

Seven! I'm telling my partner, who has been debating a second one for about ten years ❤️

The ten-year debate sounds familiar. I finally went ahead in the summer holidays, and the higher hole took far longer to settle than my first ones ever did, mostly from catching on hair ties and dupattas. So for the original question, I'd time it for a long holiday rather than a school week.

One practical check first: the uniform rules. Some schools allow only one stud per ear, and a fresh piercing cannot have its stud taken out for several weeks. If the rules forbid it, she would either break them or let the hole close, and neither is a good start. Beyond that, I would treat it as her decision with your conditions attached.

my daughter got hers at 14. nothing happened except two weeks of complaining it hurt when she slept on that side. school made her wear plain studs. that's about all the objections there are 🤷‍♂️
