  • 1on 14 and already set on a residential junior college for 11th and 12th

At 14 he may be choosing the idea of independence more than any particular college. That isn't a reason to dismiss it. I would take him to see one or two campuses in class 10, including the hostel rooms and the daily timetable, and let the reality do some of the talking. Our daughter was certain at 15 that she wanted to live away, cooled on it after one visit, and at 18 went anyway. The question isn't settled now and doesn't need to be.

  • 2on 8 month old has learnt to take my glasses off and throw them

My daughter did this as a baby, and the interest faded once she found other things to grab, a few months later perhaps. What helped in the meantime was an old pair of frames without lenses that she was allowed to pull at. It didn't stop her, but the real pair survived.

  • 0on one of this week's research participants turned out to be a mother from my son's preschool

At the university we have the same thing when a student's parent turns out to be a colleague. What I learnt: say the boundary once, clearly, in private rather than at the gate, and then never let it be awkward again. 'I'm not allowed to talk about studies I run, but thank you for taking part' is enough. It's the repeated vague answers that make it strange.

  • 1on Daycare wants the anklets off. My mother wants the black thread left on

There are two separate things here and it might help to split them. The daycare's rule is about safety, and they're unlikely to bend it for one family. Your mother's worry is about protection, and she probably hears "remove it" as "your belief doesn't count". I'd let the daycare explain it to her directly, if she ever does drop-off or pickup. It is harder to argue with the person who looks after the baby all day than with your own daughter.

  • 0on A coaching centre is holding a free 'career planning' seminar for class 10 parents. Worth a Saturday?

From the college side: be careful with any specific cut-off numbers or 'guaranteed' outcomes mentioned at these. They're hard to check on the spot. Write the claims down and look them up afterwards on the official exam and college websites.
