Would moving from CBSE to State Board in class 7 hurt? Kartikeya High School is close by

Son is in class 6. His CBSE school is shifting its middle section to a new campus next year, and his ride would go from 20 minutes to close to an hour each way. Not doing that for four more years. Kartikeya High School is ten minutes from us in Vanasthalipuram. It's State Board. Two questions. 1. Anyone who moved a child from CBSE to State Board around class 7 or 8: was the change in syllabus and textbooks a real problem, or a few months of adjustment? 2. Anyone with a child at Kartikeya: how is the workload in the middle classes? Specifics please, not 'good school, nice teachers'.

We're weighing a move for our 12 year old too, so I've been reading up. Can't speak to Kartikeya. On the board change, what I've heard from two families who did it is that maths and science were manageable and it was the second language that took the most getting used to. One thing I'd ask: what does your son think of the move? In our case the commute argument made perfect sense to us and much less sense to her.

He's fine with it. Two boys on our road already go to schools near home. The board is my question, not his feelings.

Language point is useful though. He has Hindi as second language now. Need to check what they offer.

my partner teaches at a state board school. says kids coming in from cbse mostly struggle with the answer-writing style for a term, not the content. telugu as a subject is the other thing if they haven't had it
