when do schools open applications for class 6 joiners?

son's in class 5. his school is fine, he's fine, but we've been talking about somewhere with more room to play for the middle school years. he spends most evenings asking to go down to the ground and it's clearly the best part of his day. the part i can't figure out is the calendar. every banner i see on the manikonda roads is about nursery and pre-primary. do schools take class 6 applications at the same time, or is that a later round once they know how many seats their own kids leave? don't want to find out in february that we missed it.

No experience at the class 6 end, my son is still in daycare. But alongside the calendar, I would ask each school what the week looks like for a class 6 child: how many games periods, and whether the ground is used by the middle school or mostly by the juniors. 'More room to play' in a brochure and on a Tuesday afternoon can be quite different things.

im tracking nursery forms for my daughter so ive been on a lot of school websites this week. a few near us have one form that says all classes subject to availability, others only mention pre primary. just call, the front office told me more in 2 mins than the website did

that's useful, thanks. i'll make a list and start calling on monday. 'subject to availability' is the part that worries me but at least it's on the form

We haven't moved either of our children, so this is second-hand from friends who did it around that age. What they described was that class 6 seats did exist but the timing varied a great deal: some schools held an entrance test in the winter, others only confirmed vacancies after their own results in March. I would treat that as their experience rather than a rule, and keep the current seat until something is confirmed in writing.
