Weekend programme that changes the sport every month. Does anything stick at that age?

banyan_trail_2122

There's a weekend programme near us in Bachupally that rotates the sport every month. Football first, then athletics, then something with rackets, and so on through the year. Our older one is in class 1 and wants to try everything, so on paper it suits him. Partner thinks he'll finish the year knowing a little of eight things and not enough of any one to enjoy it. I can see that. He's never stuck with anything long enough for us to find out. Anyone put a kid through one of these rotating ones? Did they pick a sport at the end, or just want the next new thing?

did one of these when he was 6 or 7. loved it while it lasted but by the end he couldn't tell you the rules of half of them. what he did figure out was he hates running and loves anything with a ball so we went with football after that and he's still at it. maybe that's the point of it

Could be. Our daughter went the other way, badminton from 5 because her cousin anna played, and by 8 she was bored stiff and wanted to drop everything. Sometimes I think a year of trying things first would have saved us that. The small one is 3 and we're in no hurry 🙂

At that age I'd look less at which sports and more at who runs it. My daughter went through three activities before she was nine, and the one that lasted had a coach who knew every child's name by the second week and changed the drill the moment they got bored. Ask whether the same coaches stay across the months or a new one comes with each sport. In our experience that decided things far more than the format.
