Theatre lists from August mean leaving at 6.30 three days a week. Do all those mornings just become my partner's?

Back on early theatre lists from August, when our daughter will be about 11 months. My partner leaves at 9, so on paper he takes those mornings: wake-up, feed, bath, daycare drop at 8.30. The catch is that he's also the one with site visits, and nobody has said out loud that these mornings are now his for the foreseeable future. My relatives can do an odd morning, not a weekly one. How did you split it when one of you had a fixed early start? Or did you hire someone just for those two hours 🙂

Before deciding who owns the mornings, write down the whole week, evenings included. In our house the mornings looked uneven until we noticed I was doing every pickup and every sick-day call. It came out roughly even once both ends of the day were on one sheet. The other thing: agree on what happens on a site-visit morning before the first one comes up. Our plan fell apart the first time because we were negotiating at 6 am.

Pickup is already mostly mine, so that changes the picture. I hadn't counted it at all. Will try the sheet this weekend, though I suspect he'll want to add a dishes column.

This is roughly how we've run it for years. He does mornings, I do pickup and evenings. It works because it's fixed, not because it's perfectly even. The weeks we 'swap as needed' are the weeks we fight.
