Ten minutes' walk from Geetanjali High School, Himayatnagar. Nursery timings and the Telugu question

lagoon_compass_330

We live about ten minutes' walk from Geetanjali High School and our son would start nursery in June 2027 at the earliest. I'd rather walk him to school than sit in Himayatnagar traffic twice a day, so it's at the top of my list. Two things I want to know before I go to the office and get the standard answer: 1. Roughly when do they start taking names for nursery? Months ahead, or does it all happen in a rush early in the year? 2. We speak Kannada at home and he hears English at daycare. It's a State Board school, so I'm assuming Telugu comes in early. From nursery itself, or from class 1? Not interested in rankings. Just the practical bits.

No direct experience with Geetanjali. When we went through nursery admissions on the Secunderabad side some years ago, forms at most schools came out between November and January, and the ones that filled fastest had a large sibling intake. Ask the office how many seats usually go to siblings and to their own playschool children. That number tells you more than the dates do.

On Telugu, most schools here teach it from the early classes whatever the board, so I wouldn't treat it as a State Board thing. Our daughter started coming home with Telugu rhymes in LKG at a CBSE school. How much happens in nursery itself varies, so ask to see the nursery timetable.

When you visit, ask them to walk you through an ordinary nursery morning from drop-off to pickup, rather than what the curriculum is called. For our elder one, the answer to 'how long do they sit at a table each day' told us more than anything in the brochure.

we're in himayatnagar too. i walk past it most mornings on the way to our son's preschool. drop-off looks like what you'd hope for a neighbourhood school, lots of parents on foot. haven't been inside though, so no help on the rest.

Standing outside at drop-off time is a good test in itself. We ruled out one school near us after doing that for a few mornings. Nothing wrong with the school, but crossing that road with a three-year-old every day was never going to work.

from the school side of things: most offices will happily tell you the month they usually open forms if you just phone and ask. seat numbers are where they get vague. a walk-in on a weekday morning after assembly is normally fine.

a kannada and english house picking up telugu at school is ordinary in hyderabad. our daughter started with malayalam and english and was teaching us telugu words by class 3. i wouldn't give up a walkable school over it.

We went through this two years ago. The schools near us only gave dates when we went in person, and two of them kept a register where you could leave your name long before the forms came out. Worth asking whether Geetanjali keeps one.
