Taking a 1 year old along on Saturday clinic deliveries. Do other business owners do this?

My partner is home with him all week this year, so on Saturdays I've started taking our son along on the short delivery runs. Two or three clinics, nothing more than an hour, car seat in the back. He loves it. The receptionists love him. My partner gets a quiet morning. But yesterday one clinic was in the middle of sterilising and I stood at their door with him on my hip feeling like an idiot. Where do you draw the line with kids and work errands? Does this get easier as they get older or much harder?
