Swim coach wants our daughter at a three-week training camp in Bengaluru in May

She's been with this club for a few years and the coach has picked six of them for a residential camp. Hostel, two sessions a day, one assistant coach travelling with them. She's thrilled. My partner has already said yes. I'm the one hesitating and I can't fully explain why. She's sensible, she's been on school trips. But it's three weeks, it's the furthest she'll have been on her own, and grade 10 starts right after. Did your teens do something like this at around this age? What did you want to know before you agreed?

Our elder one did a two-week music camp last year. First three days of calls were tears, then she barely called at all. Ask what the phone rules are and how often they can call home, that's what settled it for us 😊

Not the same age at our end, but I'd want to meet the assistant coach before I worried about the hostel. One adult for six teenagers, in a city that isn't theirs, is the part I would ask about.

Fair point. The one adult was what bothered me, I think, without my noticing. Asking the coach today.

my daughter isn't a swimmer, but last year i said no to a two-week trip for her and then spent a month wondering why. it helped to ask myself whether the worry was about her or about three weeks without her. i didn't love the answer

Mostly the second, if I'm honest. My partner said the same thing in fewer words.
