new class 3 section. there's a boy with a shadow teacher who sits with him most of the day. my son came home and announced he's going to 'help' him every day: open his tiffin, carry his bag, everything. very sweet, but the boy may not want any of that, and i don't want my son treating him like a project. how do i explain the difference to him 🤷

Tell him to ask the boy first what he likes. My daughter had a girl like this in her primary class who did not talk much. The teacher told all the children: play with her, don't do things for her. That one simple line helped. Now both are 17 and still friends.

ask the shadow teacher at pickup. she'll know what helps and what gets in the way. kids take it better from her than from us

no experience with this, mine's a baby. but there was a boy like that in my class growing up and nobody explained anything to us. we weren't kind. good that you're thinking about it now

that's partly why. i remember a boy like that too. talked to him this morning, told him friends ask before they help. he said 'so i can still sit next to him'. yes you can
