Son picked Sanskrit as his third language. Nobody at home can read a word of it

He chose it in class 6 because his two friends did and someone told them it's 'easy marks'. Easy for whom, I'd like to know. First assessment of class 7 he got 9 out of 20 and the notebook is full of red I can't check. My Gujarati doesn't help and my Hindi gets me as far as reading the script, not the grammar. Is a tutor for one third-language subject a normal thing, or does it settle once they get used to the endings? Evenings are already short with a 3 year old in the house.

My daughter also took Sanskrit in school, till class 8. First year was difficult like this, the word endings are too many. We kept one tuition sir only in the exam month, two classes a week, that was enough for her. Later the marks came good. Now she is in Inter BiPC and nobody asks about Sanskrit marks there, so don't worry too much.

Exam-month tuition sounds like a sensible middle path. My son's school offered Sanskrit or Telugu in class 6 and he took Sanskrit for the same 'easy marks' reason. It wasn't easy until he started reading the chapter aloud the night before class, which sounds silly, but the endings stuck once he heard them. He's in class 8 now and doesn't regret it, though he would never admit that to me.
