Since the UKG teacher started a daily summary message, my son tells me nothing about his day

His class teacher sends a message every evening: what they did, a couple of photos, sometimes a line about him. It's thoughtful and I like knowing. The trouble is that when I ask him about his day now, he says 'you already saw it on the phone'. And he's right, I did. Has anyone found a way to get them talking when the school has already told you everything?

Ask about what the message can't know. Who he sat with at lunch, what was funny, who got into trouble. Mine stopped answering 'how was school' at five and never started again, but 'who made you laugh today' still works at fourteen, most days 🙂

We read the message with our daughter in the evening and she corrects it. 'That's not what happened, Miss didn't see.' So the message starts the conversation instead of ending it.

My two told me nothing at that age either, and there were no messages then. Pillalu talk in the car or at bath time, hardly ever when asked. I'd ask less and just be around at bedtime 😊
