Senior boys on the school bus keep the back rows. My 9 year old gets squeezed in near the driver

My son is in class 4. He mentioned, very casually, that he sits three to a seat at the front because the class 9 and 10 boys 'save' the back for themselves. Nobody is mean to him, he says, that's just how the bus is. He isn't upset. I'm the one thinking about it. Is this something every school bus has had forever, or worth a quiet word with the attendant?

Asked my son just now since he's one of the back-row boys on his bus. According to him the juniors sit in front because the attendant puts them there, nobody saves anything. Every bus is different, but I'd ask how seats are assigned before assuming it's the seniors.

Fair point, I only have my son's version. I do the pickup, so I'll ask the attendant tomorrow. Three to a seat still bothers me, whoever decided it.

Three on a seat built for two, or three small children on a seat meant for three? Those are different questions. The first goes to the transport in-charge, in writing. The second is just a bus.
