School reopens on Wednesday and the World Cup knockouts are on in the middle of the night

Our son is 14 and has watched nearly every group match this month, mostly at hours I'd rather not think about. Summer holidays, so we let it go. I watched a fair few with him, I'll admit. School starts again this week, class 9, and the knockout games here are mostly late night or before dawn. He's proposing a deal: weekends free, weeknights only 'big games', whatever those turn out to be. What would you agree to? I'm the wrong person to be strict about this and he knows it.

we let ours watch one live match a week on a school night and the rest as highlights in the morning. she complained for two days, then decided she liked highlights at breakfast

Write the actual list now, not 'big games'. Pick which matches count before the knockouts start, so you're not negotiating at 1 am. Our son agreed to three, plus the final, which was never up for discussion. And the school bus doesn't care who won.

The list worked for us during a cricket series. Our daughter picked her matches and stuck to them better than I expected, because she had chosen them herself.

Writing the list tonight. He's sitting next to me watching the pre-match show, so the negotiation has already started.
