school is 'fine' every day with me. then he tells his grandmother everything on the phone

indigo_sparrow_4228

overheard him on the sunday call with my mother. the fight in his class, the new pe teacher, someone who got scolded in assembly, his marks in a test i didn't know he'd written. twenty minutes of it. with me it's 'fine' and 'nothing'. i'm not upset exactly. a bit left out. mostly glad he has someone he tells.

Paati privilege 🙂 My elder one was the same at 11, all his news went to his paati first. These days he does tell me things, just never when I ask. Enjoy that he's telling someone.

grandparents don't ask follow-up questions. that's the whole trick. my daughter told me so, more or less in those words

Ours does this with her grandmother too, in Tamil, which she won't speak with us 🙂 I've stopped minding. Sometimes the important bits come back to me through her grandmother, so it works as a relay of sorts.

Late to this. With our son it's his thatha, my father-in-law. I asked him once why him. 'Thatha doesn't get worried.' Haven't asked again.
