Rainy weekends indoors with a 5 month old. What do you do with her all day?

On weekdays the caregiver has a whole routine going. On weekends it's mostly me while my partner catches up on sleep, and with the rain we haven't been out properly in three weekends. I've done tummy time, songs, the window, the same rattle. By 11 am I'm out of ideas and she's bored of my face 😂 What do you do with a baby this age indoors that isn't the TV?

When ours was that age, the steel vessels in the kitchen were the best toy in the house. A couple of plates and a ladle on the floor and she would bang away for twenty minutes. Carrying her around the flat and naming everything also worked better than any toy. I think she liked seeing things from up high.

Tried the steel plates on Saturday. Twenty minutes is about right, she was thrilled. The downstairs neighbour, less so 😂 The carrying-and-naming one works too. She stares at the ceiling fan like it owes her money.

      Replying to @citrus_kettle_5984

Put a thick towel under the plates. Still loud enough for her, and our downstairs aaji stopped complaining 🙂

  • A plain mirror at floor level, a small basket of safe kitchen things that you rotate, and a short walk along the building corridor or lift lobby for a change of scene. For us the order mattered more than the activities; the same three things in the same sequence made the morning go faster.
