Our daughter would rather just dance than sit her first Kathak exam

Our daughter has been doing Kathak for almost three years, twice a week. This year her teacher wants every girl at her level to register for the first exam: practical, a written theory part, a viva, the works. She loves the class. She does not love the idea of another written test right after her class 4 finals. Aai says certificates matter later, my partner says let her just enjoy it for now, and I keep changing sides. Did your kids do these exams early, and did it change how much they liked dancing?

Our elder one's keyboard class pushed the grade exams too. We let her skip the first one and she took the next level a year later when she wanted to. No harm that we could see. It's her hobby, she should want the certificate herself.

I did Bharatanatyam exams from about her age. I remember the exam hall and the noisy fan very clearly, and almost nothing about enjoying dance that year. Possibly that was just me. If she's happy in class, I wouldn't rush the paper part.
