Our caregiver's English isn't strong, and all of our daughter's homework is in English

She's with our daughter from 3 to 7 and she's lovely at everything else. Homework time, though, has turned into our daughter reading out the instructions and the caregiver nodding, then both of them guessing. Twice this month the worksheet came back with the wrong task done beautifully. She has offered to explain things in Telugu, which our daughter understands. The school is IB and everything there is in English. Is that a sensible workaround in grade 2, or does it make things worse? I'm on calls till 8 most evenings, so I can't step in.

Explaining in Telugu is fine at that age. Understanding the task is the job; the English answer she can write herself. I do the same with my grandson, in Telugu, and his mother checks the English at night.

For me it is the other way. My children's Telugu and Hindi homework I cannot read at all, I studied in Tamil medium. So my daughter tells me in English what the Telugu question is asking and then I can help her. Sometimes explaining it is the learning also. If your daughter reads the instruction and tells your caregiver what it means, half the homework is done already.
