Our caregiver goes from afternoons to full days in May. Pro-rata, a flat amount, or something else?

Our caregiver comes at 12.30 now, collects our daughter from the van and stays till 7. From May we'll need her from 9, because school is shut and my partner has a course most mornings till 2. She's asked for an increase for those weeks. Completely reasonable, I just don't know what's normal. Pro-rata for the extra hours? A flat amount? Do people also give lunch on the longer days? She's been with us two years and I'd rather get this right than haggle 🤷

Pro-rata is the only version where nobody feels cheated. Work out what she earns per hour now and pay that for the extra hours. Lunch, yes, if she's there from 9.

Will she be doing anything extra in those hours, like cooking for your daughter? We pay a bit more on the days ours cooks, separately from the hours.

We paid the extra hours at her usual rate and rounded up. Two years with the same person is worth some rounding.

Rounding up is what we did as well. She told her friends about it and we heard about it for months, in a good way.

Decide now what happens in June when the hours drop again. Ours got used to the summer amount and the drop turned into an awkward conversation.

Hadn't thought about June at all. I'll say clearly that it's for May and the first two weeks of June.
