Our caregiver completes a year with us next week. How did you mark it?

Our son's caregiver joined when he was a little over one, and next week it will be a full year. She has been wonderful. We're both doctors with clinic and procedure days, and she has never once made us feel the stretch. I'd like to say thank you properly without it being awkward. A bonus? Something for her family? A day off? And did you discuss a raise at the same time, or keep the two separate? ❤️

Keep the raise and the thank-you separate if you can. When they come together, the gift looks like a substitute for the raise. Years ago we asked our daughter's ayah what would help her most, expecting her to say money. She asked for a week off at Sankranti so she could go home. We gave both :)

Our nanny started only a few months ago, so we're nowhere near a year, but I'm noting all of this. One thing I've wondered is whether something for her own kids lands better than something for her.

That's what I was leaning towards. She has a daughter in school, so maybe something she needs for the new term. Thank you for this.

The lady who helps in our house has been with us eleven years. Every Eid we give new clothes for her and her children also, and when her son had exams I sat with him for his tuition myself. More than the gift, she remembers that we asked about her family. She is part of the house now.
