Our 8 year old asked for football in after-school activities and was allotted knitting

Her school runs after-school activities by preference list and then allots. She put football, art, coding and, as a fourth option she didn't think would ever happen, knitting. She got knitting. She cried in the car. The school says the lists are fixed for the term and changes are 'considered case by case'. Do I write in, or tell her to give it the term? I'm a little reluctant to be the parent who emails in week one, and a little curious whether she'll end up liking it.
