Our 10 year old now talks to us like he's filming a video

willow_moon_5667

Every request gets 'okay so basically' and every story starts with 'guys, you won't believe this'. The audience is me and his little sister. He also rates dinner out of ten. Mostly it's funny. Then he did it on the phone with his grandmother and she asked me who 'guys' was. It comes from two or three creators he watches with his friends, nothing bad that I can see. Do you step in on the tone, or does this burn out on its own?

We had a year of 'smash that like button' at the dinner table around that age. It faded when his friends moved on to something else, not because of anything we did. The one thing I insisted on was normal speech with grandparents and teachers, and he managed that surprisingly well once asked.

Is it only the phrasing, or has he also started judging things the way the videos do, with ratings and 'cringe'? The phrasing I would leave alone. The judging I would keep an eye on, because that habit tends to outlast the accent.

rating dinner out of ten is fair game imo. ask him to rate his own cooking once 🤷
