'Not a breakfast person' at 10, and the van comes at 7:10

cobalt_spoon_2632

Since the mid-terms started she's been skipping breakfast. Says she isn't hungry that early, which I believe, but by the short break she's cranky and the class teacher has mentioned it once already. Van is at 7:10. She's up at 6:30, so realistically there's 15 minutes for food and she spends 10 of them looking for socks. The baby is awake at the same hour so our mornings are already a circus. What do your kids eat that takes 5 minutes, or can be eaten in the van without a mess? Not looking for a full nutrition plan, just something that actually goes in 🙂

When my children were school going and the van was very early, I used to give a glass of ragi malt or a banana first thing, and the real breakfast went in the tiffin for the first break. Small idlis also, two only, they will eat in the van without mess. In my daycare also some children come without eating, we give a small fruit first and then they are fine. Hunger comes after one hour, don't worry too much.

I leave at 6.15 for theatre lists and eat in the car most days, so I'm firmly on your daughter's side 😄 What works for me is a boiled egg and a banana, both one-handed. Maybe she gets her own grown-up 'commute breakfast' box to carry into the van? Kids sometimes eat things when it feels like their decision.

The 'own box' idea worked for my son at about that age. We let him pick what went in from three options. He still complained, but he ate it. My daughter is the opposite, she'll eat anything as long as she's allowed to sit at the table for it.
