No-fire cooking day for class 3 and she has picked a dish that needs a stove

teal_trail_7091

school has a no fire cooking activity next week. each kid brings one dish they made themselves, has to be healthy, no stove no microwave. she has decided on pongal i'm on pickups and evenings this week so this lands on me. what can an 8 yr old make on her own that isn't fruit salad. anything that sounds like salad gets rejected ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pongal with no fire is a bold choice. Sprouted moong bhel works. You soak and sprout the moong a day before, which counts as prep, and she does all the mixing, lemon and chopping with a butter knife. Or no-bake ragi laddoos: roasted ragi flour from the shop, jaggery powder, a bit of ghee and some crushed nuts, rolled into balls. Kids love the rolling part. Mine is far too small for any of this so I'm enjoying yours.

laddoos might work. rolling things is exactly her kind of job, she'll happily do it for an hour. will pitch them tomorrow as energy balls so they don't sound like paati food
