Niece's school has started tests every Saturday for class 7. Her only free morning is gone

My niece is in class 7 and her school has just announced a test every Saturday morning, subjects in rotation, starting this month. I handle her school things on weekdays as agreed with her parents, so the message came to me first. Saturday was the one morning she slept in, went to her dance class and saw her cousins. Now it's a test, dance in the afternoon, and Sunday becomes homework day. She's taking it better than I am. Has anyone's child had weekly Saturday tests in middle school? Did they help, or just become one more thing to prepare for?

do the marks go anywhere? if they count towards the term, that's a different conversation from 'weekly practice'. our school calls everything a test and most of them are worksheets with a date on top

Good question, so I asked her class teacher on Friday. They're practice tests, the marks go in her diary and not on the report, and the idea is to take the panic out of unit tests. That made me feel a bit better ❤️ Dance has moved to the evening.

both of mine had saturday tests from class 7. the first month they prepared, after that they just showed up and wrote. it didn't hurt and it didn't change much. losing the lie-in hurt more than the tests did
