New rule at dinner: nothing gets picked out. My 10 year old eats the curry leaves first, eyes shut

Her brother is 13 and eats around everything he doesn't like so neatly you'd think he was doing surgery. So the rule came in for both of them. He has chosen to negotiate case by case. She has chosen to get it over with. Every meal now starts with a small pile of curry leaves, the odd bit of ginger and whatever mustard seeds she considers 'too many', eaten very fast with her eyes closed. Then she relaxes and enjoys her food. I don't know who's winning.

The negotiating 13 year old is so familiar ❤️ Mine argues that coriander is a garnish and therefore optional by law. Your daughter's method is very efficient though. I respect it.

I am filing this away for later. At the moment mine eats the curry leaves happily and spits out the rice, so I suspect it will all reverse.

Update, since I read this out at dinner: my son says your son is right and the rule is unfair. My partner said that's exactly what a picker would say. No resolution in our house either.

Laughing at the eyes shut. My little one has the opposite approach. She lines the curry leaves up along the edge of the plate like a border. Every single meal. I've stopped asking.

This made me smile on a long day. My daughter is in class 10 and still sorts her plate into little sections when she's stressed before a test. I've decided not to say a word about it till the exams are over.
