new preschool's letter says the van is compulsory for ukg. we live 2 km away

younger one got a ukg seat at a preschool about 2 km from us in lb nagar. he liked it at the visit, i liked the classrooms. now the confirmation letter says transport is compulsory for all ukg children, no parent drop or pickup without special approval. my caregiver could easily walk him there and back. i'd rather pay for that than a van that will probably take 40 mins to do 2 km because it collects a dozen other kids first is this normal for preschools now? did anyone get an exemption just by asking, or is it take it or leave it
